If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change toward him...  We need not wait to see what others do."

What is Reiki?

Reiki is an incredibly loving, healing energy that promotes relaxation and stress reduction. During a session, Reiki is channeled through a practitioner to activate the natural healing processes of the client’s body. A Reiki session is conducted in a similar way to acupuncture, but without the needles. While laying down for about an hour, the patient receives the energy of Reiki as the practitioner lays her hands on or above several areas of the client's body. These points typically correspond to the energy centers of the ancient chakra system.

Why and How Does Reiki Work?

Reiki is a type of gentle, yet powerful energy based in Universal Wisdom. The form we use today originated in the early 1900s in Japan and comes from two words: “Rei” meaning Universal Wisdom and “Ki” meaning life force energy (similar to

the life force energy referred to as Prana, Chi, Orgone, etc.).

Through the “laying of hands” on or near a client’s body, the Reiki practitioner is able to channel this life force energy. This healing energy is readily available to everyone; however, at some point during our lives, we forget how to access it. If you can imagine your highest, most purest, loving self that you were before any of the painful aspects of human existence began, that is the part of you that is accessing the Reiki, through the practitioner. Reiki is an energy with its own Wisdom and is able to connect with your unconscious Soul level, and so is able to go beyond the filters and resistance that we all erect in our everyday conscious mind.

In freeing up our blocks, Reiki promotes a sense of serenity and peace, which sets the body up with the best conditions for healing. Experiences during a session vary both from person-to-person and from session-to-session. Sensations vary from tingling, heat, coldness and any other mild physical sensations, to nothing specific but an overall sense of calmness. Rest assured Reiki is working and healing at the level that it is most needed.

On a scientific level, there does seem to be a connection between new insights in Quantum Physics and Cosmology and the way Reiki works. While that connection is being researched and confirmed, a bit of faith in the Unknown is a helpful, but not necessary part of a Reiki healing.

What are the Benefits of Reiki?

Anyone can benefit from a Reiki healing session. It is safe for everyone, including pregnant women, senior citizens, palliative care/hospice patients, and even pets. Benefits include:

  • Helps reduces stress, pain and anxiety

  • Greater sense of peace and inner harmony

  • Expanded self awareness and connection to your body

  • Helps remove blocks (emotional, mental and physical) within the body

  • Assists in the body’s natural healing processes

The energy of Reiki is omnipresent. Once a healer becomes attuned to the energy, he/she is able to channel it through to the client, and can even send it across the world. Clients do not have to be physically close to the healer.

Jen is an intuitive Reiki healer, meaning she often receives messages from the client’s body during the session. After the session, Jen spends time with each client, sharing these messages; clients walk away with a sense of peace and hope, as well as real-life tools and intuitive insights that they can apply in their everyday world.

How Long is a Session?

A typical Reiki session is an hour. I always allow time before and after the session to discuss the experience, process any mental or emotional issues the may come up and answer any questions.

How Often Should I Go for a Reiki Treatment?

Reiki healing is a very individual process. If you are just interested in experiencing the peace of Reiki, one session may be all you need. Often times, though, I recommend coming for 3 sessions in a row (i.e. weekly) and then you can determine how often you may want to return after that. Patients suffering from chronic conditions may want to come on a more regular basis. Come and try one session and then we can work out an individual plan if that feels right to you.

Why Learn How to Do Reiki?

While not everyone is interested in performing a Reiki session, I really do believe there is a great benefit to becoming attuned to the Reiki energy. Reiki flows deep within, uncovering parts of a person, promoting a path into greater self awareness and personal connection with ourselves. As you perform Reiki on yourself after a Level 1 course, and then continue to learn about Reiki on the emotional/mental level after a Level 2 course, inner communication begins to grow. As we become more aware of our own truths and unconscious beliefs/feelings, personal growth, healing and true inner peace is imminent.

Reiki is also an incredible tool for parents and caregivers.  With Reiki in your toolbox, you can gain the ability to help your children:

  • Fall asleep (especially helpful the nights before stressful events like the first day of school)

  • Overcome an emotional meltdown

  • Feel more peaceful

  • Gain insight into themselves so that they can solve their own “problems”

All by tuning into them and laying your hands on their bodies!
